Helping Kings of Leon Grow Up, Get Arty
I joined the NYC-based boutique agency Night After Night in fall 2016 for a contract role as Creative Director leading a team for two clients: The Grammy-wining rock band Kings of Leon and legendary spirits brand Jameson Irish Whiskey. For Kings, this meant pushing the band’s brand into new territory for their seventh album, WALLS. New color palettes (millennial pinks!), funky new logos and collateral images, and playful artwork that felt fresh for a bad boy rock band from Nashville. We designed a new website, refreshed their social channels, and shot three new music videos. First, we set out to film one narrative music video, followed by two live videos. But when fans’ response to the time travel narrative of the first video took off, with fans offering alternate narratives in the comments, we saw an opportunity to expand the video intro a trilogy and collaborate with fans in real time. After a pitch to the band’s label, RCA, we had approval to shoot a 35-minute trilogy that has now reached over 40MM views on YouTube. This video campaign was support by band and label social support, PR (premieres music media), and paid boosts of snippets across social. We later also promoted their world tour with a similar marketing campaign. See below.
